本書はロッテルダム／ベルリンを拠点とするHumDrumPressによって作成された出版のためのマニュアル。彼らは出版をコモンズとして捉え、知識・経験を共有し、再利用されるためのモデルを提案する。「マニュアル」はかつて彼らが掲げた「マニフェスト」を補完する役割として存在する。理想を語るマニフェストに対し、マニュアルの目的は具体的な実践方法の提供である。 出版のプロセスを14のレイヤーに分けて解説した本書は、決定版ではなくあくまで「スナップショット」であり、オンライン上で自由に編集・加筆ができるよう公開されている。年に一度アップデートされたものが更新版として印刷され、版を重ねていく仕組みだ。しかし彼らの実践を可能にしている前提条件も多く存在する。ヨーロッパに住む30代前半の高学歴の白人女性であり、多くの資金提供元にアクセス可能で、現時点で子育ても介護の責任もない。自身の立ち位置を明らかにするのは、特権を受けた社会環境を自覚し、フェアであろうとするためだ。 彼らが言うように出版の大部分は「メンテナンス」である。健全で持続可能でバランスの取れたコラボレーションにコミットしつつ、応答性の高いコモンズにもとづく出版モデルのメンテナンスに投資することが、彼らの目標と課題である。本書は韓国の書店「The Book Society 」とベルリンの読書室「Common Imprint」によって韓国語訳とともに出版された。This book is a publishing manual created by Rotterdam/Berlin-based HumDrumPress. They view publishing as a commons, proposing a model for sharing and reusing knowledge and experience. This "manual" complements their original "manifesto." While a manifesto describes ideals, the manual's purpose is to provide concrete practical methods. This book, which explains the publishing process in 14 layers, is not a definitive version but merely a "snapshot" and is available online for free editing and additions. Updated versions are printed annually, resulting in successive editions. However, there are many prerequisites that make their practice possible. I'm a highly educated white woman in my early 30s living in Europe, with access to numerous funding sources and no current childcare or eldercare responsibilities. I'm clarifying my position because I'm aware of my privileged social environment and want to be fair. As they say, a large part of publishing is "maintenance." Their goal and challenge is to invest in maintaining a responsive commons-based publishing model while committing to healthy, sustainable, and balanced collaboration.
